GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the CNS. VGAT transports GABA and glycine into acidic vesicles and localizes to the synaptic vesicle in glycinergic and GABAergic neurons. And VGAT antibodies are useful markers for presynaptic GABAergic and glycinergic neurons.
