The B7-H4 protein acts as a negative regulator and inhibits T cell-mediated immune responses, including activation, proliferation, cytokine production, and cytotoxicity. Significant significance can be observed when expressed on tumor macrophages, cooperating with regulatory T cells (Tregs) to suppress tumor-associated antigen-specific T cell immunity.
