D-Allothreonine is a bacterial peptide lipid. D-Allothreonine is specifically oxidized by D-amino acid oxidase, while the L-form is unresponsive. D-Allothreonine is also a component of bacterial polysaccharides. D-Allothreonine can be used to study bacterial pathogenicity, antigenic diversity, and drug resistance.
