The TSG-6 protein is a major extracellular matrix regulator that catalyzes the transfer of heavy chains to hyaluronic acid to form hyaluronic acid-HC oligomers that are critical for tissue remodeling and oocyte fertilization. It assembles hyaluronic acid in the pericellular matrix, which acts as a platform for receptor aggregation.
