N- (3-Hydroxyoctanoyl) -DL-homoserine lactone (Compound 40) is a competitive inhibitor of the quorum sensing receptor LuxR with an IC50 value of 4 μM. N- (3-Hydroxyoctanoyl) -DL-homoserine lactone shows selective inhibition toward quorum sensing systems in Gram-negative bacteria like Pseudomonas aeruginosa. N- (3-Hydroxyoctanoyl) -DL-homoserine lactone is promising for research of bacterial infections[1].
