Source : HEK293; SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein (S protein) is a type I transmembrane protein that contains two subunits, S1 and S2. S1 helps recognize the host cell surface receptor with its receptor binding domain (RBD) . Whereas S2 assist the membrane fusion of the virion and cellular membranes. Together, the S protein plays a key role in mediating the host infection and inducing the neutralizing-antibody and T-cell responses, as well as protective immunity.
